Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has delivered the new cruise ship for AIDA Cruises AIDAprima

Aidaprima  March 14th, 2016 — One year later than the completion date originally scheduled, the Japanese shipbuilding group Mistubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has delivered the cruise ship AIDAprima the German cruise line AIDA Cruises, which through Costa Cruises, is part of the American group Carnival Corporation. Building AIDAprima, the first of two ships of 125,000 gross tons ordered the Japanese shipyard, began in June 2013 and the ship should have been completed by the shipyard in Nagasaki in March 2015 (the second in March 2016); however the date of completion of the unit was initially postponed to next September, so it was again postponed to December 2015 and then reach today.

“Given the nature of avant-garde of the ship – said the Chairman and CEO of MHI, Shunichi Miyanaga – construction has been challenging, but – he pointed out – in the end we realized a top quality cruise liner, which offers features comfort and excellent entertainment for passengers. ” Miyanaga nevertheless admitted the inexperience of their group in the construction of ships of this type: the construction of AIDAprima – confirmed – “has provided us many important lessons useful for the improvement of the construction procedures of the ships that will follow, starting with the sister ship of AIDAprima “.

At the handover ceremony was attended by the CEO of Costa Crociere Group, Michael Thamm, President of AIDA Cruises and Felix Eichhorn.

AIDAprima, which flies the Italian flag, is 300 meters long, 37.6 meters wide, has 18 decks and 1,643 cabins able to accommodate 3,286 passengers.
