The cruise company Celebrity Cruises group American Royal Caribbean Cruises has signed a letter of intent with the French shipyard STX France for the construction of two ships of the new class that will be developed as a project “Edge” on the basis of class unity and Millenium Solstice. According to forecasts, the first ship will be taking over in the fall of 2018 and the second in the first part of 2020.
The new ships will have a gross tonnage of 117,000 tons, will be 300 meters long, 37 meters wide over, 58 meters high and will have a capacity of 2,900 passengers. The goal is to use them in the premium segment on short cruise itineraries. “The inclusion in our fleet of two ships egde of the project – said the president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises, Richard Fain – offers a moderate capacity growth as part of our long-term strategic plan and the continuation phase positive that the Celebrity brand has achieved in the premium segment of our industry. ”
Royal Caribbean Cruises is expected that in the years 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, the fleet capacity of the group will grow by + 2.4%, + 5.5%, + 6.7%, + 3.8% and + 4.3%, estimated that does not take into account the possible sale of ships or new inputs of units in the fleet planned in the future.
