The Italian shipbuilding group Fincantieri has signed a cooperation agreement with the Chinese Huarun Dadong Dockyard (HRDD) as part of ship repairs and conversions aimed at serving the cruise ships that have as their base of operations to China. The agreement includes the development of technical skills, project management, and logistics procedures. The Italian company has explained that, in particular, Fincantieri, through its business unit dedicated Ship Repair and Conversion, will provide the technical expertise gained as a benchmark operator in the cruise sector globally and, combined with cutting-edge infrastructure HRDD, provide the fundamental support to the fledgling Chinese cruise industry and major foreign cruise operators that will operate in the local market.
Fincantieri recalled that HRDD is a leader in ship repairs and conversions, with modern facilities strategically located close to the cruise terminal in Shanghai. The yard, which uses five basins, has great experience of activities on a wide range of unit types and a wealth of expertise that make it particularly well suited to the cruise industry. The Italian company also recalled that it has initiated an internationalization and rooting strategy in this market with the agreements of 2014 when the new cruise construction sector for the local market and have subsequently established a subsidiary based in Shanghai, Fincantieri ( Shanghai) Trading Co. Ltd.
