The cruise operator Carnival Corporation is ready to scale back its usual newbuilds investment program that provides new 2-3 buildings every year. To say it is an analysis of UBS Investment Research following a briefing with the leaders of the company held aboard the Carnival Sunshine.
According to the Swiss bank, the approach of the first group in the cruise industry will be more conservative in terms of orders for new constructions and could grow significantly refurbishment activities (renovation) ships in the fleet already started in 2011 with the Fun Ship 2.0 program.
The UBS analyst Robin Farley said that ” Carnival is not currently working on new orders for ships delivered in 2017 ” because the company is focusing on increasing revenues to be obtained from a rise in the prices of cruises.
For Fincantieri shipyard privileged group led by Micky Arison , this is not good news, even if they could open up interesting new opportunities in terms of refurbishment ( in Trieste had been recently refurbished the Carnival Destiny for about $ 155 million ) .
